Cuba sunindex: the best time to travel to Cuba
Of all the islands in the Caribbean Cuba is probably the most distinctive. Salsa, cigars, the communist regime, rum and the impressive city of Havana make Cuba an unforgettable holiday destination. The most striking is probably the population, friendly, exuberant, cheerful and willing to share the few things they have. The people who do not benefit from tourism are very poor. This is a large contrast with the luxury you will find in most hotels and resorts. The only chance for the local population to earn extra money is in the tourist segment in the form of tipping in strong foreign currency. We advise you not to spend your entire holiday on the beach because Cuba is such a colorful country. You really should pay a visit to Havana where you can spot the old American cars and Salsa music seems to come from every corner of the street. The interior is also well worth visiting with its beautiful scenery. You can even visit tobacco plantations. In Pinar del Rio you can see how the tobacco leaves are used to make the famous Cuban cigars such as Romeo y Julieta, Montecristo, Cohiba and Bolivar. In Havana you should visit El Floridita and La Bodeguita. Cuba is an ideal winter sun destination because winters here are warm without getting too hot, the hurricane season is over and chances of precipitation are low. However, you should bear in mind that it may cool down during the evening. It may be too cold then to only wear shorts and a shirt.
