Hong Kong sunindex: the best time to travel to Hong Kong
Just like Macau Hong Kong is part of the People’s Republic of China but is a special Administrative Region. Because of this it is seen as an independent region. The official name of Hong Kong is: Hong Kong Special Administrative Region of the People’s republic of China. Hong Kong consists of 236 islands, only few of which are inhabited. The area where Hong Kong is situated has been inhabited for thousands of years but really flourished in 1699 when the East India Company settled here. After the First Opium War between China and Britain the island was formerly ceded in perpetuity to the United Kingdom under the treaty of Nanking. In 1898 Britain obtained a 99-year lease. In 1997 this lease was not prolonged and the region was given back to China. Because of this long British rule English is still one of the two official languages here. Hong Kong is not a typical winter sun destination. In general temperatures are too low to really be able to enjoy the sunshine. Most people travel here to see this beautiful metropolis with their own eyes and see a holiday to Hong Kong as a winter sun holiday.
