Trivia & strange facts
- Do not wander into the mountains alone. Always bring a guide and a Sherpa. A Sherpa may
sound somewhat decadent. However, these people are very glad to earn some money this way
and at a high altitude the extra weight really weighs you down.
- Souvenirs are often a dime a dozen. However, in Nepal you can buy Tankas. These are Buddhist
paintings of a high quality. You can also order a painting. This way you have a unique keepsake.
- Hikes are tough. However, do not drink from rivers. You can only drink water from rocks and
rivers above the ‘cow line’. Please, drink bottled water or disinfect the water first.
- Do not pat children on their heads, this is seen as very rude. When you shake hands, only use
  your right hand.
- If you want to do something more extreme you can go rafting, paragliding or mountaineering.
