Papua New Guinea sunindex: the best time to travel to Papua New Guinea
The independent state of Papua New Guinea is situated in the Pacific Ocean. Indonesia is its only neighboring country. The Torres Strait seperates the country from Australia in the south. Port Moresby is the capital and the largest city of Papua New Guinea. The country consists of one main island and several smaller islands and archipelagos. The autonomous province of Bougainville is also a part of Papua New Guinea. This archipelago used to be known as the Northern Solomon Islands. The Louisiades, the Bismarck archipelagos, the Lihir Islands and several smaller islands are also part of Papua New Guinea. New Britain and New Ireland are among the largest and most important of these islands. Because of its remote location the country has unique animal and plant life. Papua New Guinea is yet to be discovered by mass tourism. This is also because of the civil war that took place here in the 1990s. However, the country offers everything you look for in a winter sun destination. Beautiful white beaches with palm trees and a beautiful sea can be found here. During WWII heavy fights took place here and the Japanese fleet was bombed several times. The sunken vessels and aircraft are now used as diving spots. This is especially beautiful in the vicinity of the coastal places Wewak and Kavieng. One of the main events in the country is the sing-sing. During this festival tribes from all over the country gather to perform a traditional dance to honor their independence. Originally this only took place in Goroka but nowadays the show can also be seen in Mount Hagen.

The weather in Papua New Guinea
Papua New Guinea has a tropical climate, most places have a tropical rainforest climate. In several places along the south coast precipitation figures are lower. These places have a tropical savannah climate or a tropical monsoon climate. Average temperatures are 30 degrees Celsius (86.0 degrees Fahrenheit) all year round. This causes average humidity figures to be high as well, especially during the winter season. During the warmest days an ever blowing sea breeze offers some cooling. The higher regions in the interior get lower temperatures, especially nights may be cold. The islands northeast of Papua New Guinea are much wetter. The temperature of the sea is very pleasant and ideal for swimming.
